The global impacts of climate change are widespread and unprecedented, from physical risks of changing weather patterns and rising sea levels to transitional risks crystalized in new national and global laws and regulations. Understanding and adapting to these effects will be more difficult and costly in the future if drastic action is not taken now.

What are the prospects for a successful COP27?
Egypt will host COP27 in November 2022. The COP27 focus is moving from pledges toward translating actions on the ground. In this panel, experts will discuss the stake issues in the view of the COP27, its priorities, and the benchmarks and prospects for a successful COP27, including raising ambition, adaptation finance and loss and damage finance, operationalization of carbon mechanism, and global adaptation goal. Yet, 4 months before COP27, are the international climate community underway to achieve the COP27 priorities? What are the priorities from different perspectives of the negotiation groups? Several topics will be tackled and debated to reflect how the COP27 might unfold next November.
This year the conference will tackle the role of the legal society in addressing climate change legal and regulatory frameworks, in addition, will focus on raising awareness of global and national climate change policy architecture.

As per Paris Agreement (PA), the current targets and policies set in the National Determined Contributions (NDCs) _ non-binding targets,] sufficient. Yet, nothing is legally binding that forces governments to resubmit enhanced ones. In this panel, specialists will discuss how to close the gap of policies to keep the track of the PA to limit the global warmth temperature below 1.5C. They will explain the role of Climate Champions in the mobilization of the non-state actors including CSOs, NGOs, and the private sector, and their mission on Race to Net-Zero.

The aim of this panel is to put forwards recommendations by the conference on how the legal community can assist Egypt in its transformative journey towards a low emission carbon economy and in hosting COP27.
